Higher Achievement’s rigorous afterschool and summer academic program gives youth from at-risk communities their best opportunity to succeed in middle school — and in life. Higher Achievement has served more than 10,000 middle school youth in the Washington, DC area since 1975, helping them achieve success in school and beyond. The organization’s strong record attracted national attention in recent years, resulting in investments that launched a national expansion beginning in Baltimore in June 2009. The national expansion continued in 2011 with the launch of a new affiliate in Richmond, VA.

Higher Achievement Baltimore, held after school and during the summer, operates three achievement centers in Baltimore City, East Baltimore at Collington Square School, South Baltimore at Arundel Elementary/Middle and West Baltimore at Lakeland Elementary/Middle. These achievement centers serve as out-of-school time academic magnet programs for underserved communities, drawing middle school youth from the host schools as well as from surrounding neighborhood schools. Higher Achievement currently serves more than 200 students from Baltimore’s most underserved neighborhoods.

"No scholar at Higher Achievement is alone. The combination of all of the people who helped me made the difference for me. They are still making that difference now."
